A look at some of my favourite shots from the start of the 2018 season
It's been business as usual for the Perth Wildcats at Perth Arena, and I'm privileged to have a front row seat as I cover the season as a freelance photographer for the Perth Wildcats. This is my 5th season with the 'Cats (2 seasons as a full-time staff member, 3 seasons as a freelancer) and it goes without saying that this is one of my favourite gigs.
I take hundreds of shots at each game, everything from action, to entertainment, crowd shots as well and corporate hospitality and sponsorship.I'm pretty active on social media in posting a couple of shots from each game, but am now aiming to showcase some more shots through this blog for those interested in some deeper cuts from my library.
A lot of sports photographers are out there to capture only the action, but I focus a lot of my attention on telling the story of the game. Wildcats games are perfect for this as there's some much going on from once the doors open all the way until the post-game press-conference. And for me capturing a player screaming for joy after a 'AND 1' is just as satisfying as getting a 'posterized' dunk. Emotion is what sport is all about so it's just as important as the action.
I hope you enjoy some of these extra shots from the first 4 games of the season. 4/4 for the Wildcats at home this year and hoping they can continue this form throughout the season.
